performs activity therapy and rehabilitative services to patients/consumers of the Fond du Lac County Department of Community Programs Acute Psychiatric Hospital, Talent Factory Program and Outpatient mental health programs including Comprehensive Community Services with the purpose of rehabilitating the patient/consumer to the highest level of functioning.
Rehabilitative therapy includes, but is not limited to, techniques to increase motor skills, sensory integrative functioning, cognitive skills, stress management skills, relaxation techniques, activities of daily living, social interpersonal skills, and psychological intrapersonal skills.
Examples of Duties Duties/Responsibilities: Performs patient/consumer assessments; develops and implements individualized treatment plans.
Plans and facilitates patient/consumer group therapy sessions on social skills, values, stress management, relaxation, independent living skills, current news events, recreation activities and other topics.
Participates in inpatient multi-disciplinary staffing.
Observes, records, and reports individual behavior, reactions, and client progress using required documentation standards.
Reports any significant change in functioning to the assigned psychiatrist.
Transports and escorts consumers to meetings, services, appointments and other activities.
Provides information to social workers, therapists, supervisory staff and other professionals regarding the consumer's status.
Provides psychosocial rehabilitative services within a team concept including but not limited to: basic living activities, money management, personal hygiene, nutrition, housing, shopping, meal preparation, laundry, parenting, community living, and recreation.
Attends and participates in Acute Unit and outpatient meetings and trainings as required.
Assists in design of quality assurance audits/studies, collection of data and participates in QA meetings.
Assists with Talent Factory programming, special events, and Talent Factory fund raising activities.
Encourages patient/consumer participation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy required.
Current Wisconsin COTA license.
Current Wisconsin driver’s license.
Required or preferred skills: Experience working with mentally ill, cognitively impaired and chemically dependent patients.
Working knowledge of state and federal patient’s rights and program regulations.
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to conform to goals, policies, and procedures of the Department as well as the Fond du Lac County Work Rules and Terms of Employment.
Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, use good judgment and maintain appropriate boundaries with consumers.
Ability to budget time and schedule work to complete tasks efficiently.
Ability to effectively communicate and use tact and diplomacy with consumer's, co-workers, professional personnel, the general public, and members of all socioeconomic groups.
Ability to serve as a positive role model for consumers and provide effective direction and supervision.
Ability to recognize potentially hazardous situations and take appropriate action.
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends required.
Knowledge of psychological/psychiatric terminology and interventions.
Knowledge of the use and side effects of psychotropic medications including symptoms of overdose.
Ability to prepare a variety of documents including clinical progress notes, billing records, consumer records, etc.
CPR and AED certification preferred.
Physical abilities: to lift or carry objects; intermittent standing and walking; occasional driving; bending; twisting; squatting; pushing; pulling and reaching; distinguish sounds at various frequencies and volumes; distinguish people or objects at varied distances under a variety of light condition; using hands for grasping, fine manipulations and operating control of equipment.
