J O B D E SCRIPT I O N
TITLE: Cemetery Coordinator/Sexton
St.
Gabriel, St.
Patrick, & St.
Margaret-Mary Parishes
DEPARTMENT: Cemetery
LOCATION: St.
Patrick Parish
REPORTS TO: Deacon Tom Gritton
EMPLOYMENT: Regular Full-Time
Essentials of Job
• Work with parish and non-parish family members who have lost a loved one with burial arrangements
• Working with funeral homes
• Selling lots/plots/columbarium plus other cemetery items
• Date and time of burial
• Possible assistance with the purchase of a headstone/monument
• Work with our vendor(s) to have grave site opened
• Prepare and complete all paperwork pertaining to burial spaces and burials
• Catholic given preference
• Assist with staking burial site for proper placement of casket or urn
• Work with burial staff to ensure everything is ready for the burial
• Manage cemetery personnel, outside contractors and volunteers
• Ensure grounds and facilities are in good condition and presentable
• Ensure the safety of personnel, volunteers, facilities, and grounds
• Hold at least annual seminars to help parishioners understand and prepare for death

• Ground burials with a destination theme (rosary, cross, etc.

• Columbaria and Crypts
• Review procedures and policies annually and make necessary changes
• Review rules and regulations annually and make necessary changes
• Abide by all local, state, and federal laws
• Review current grave site openings and investigate better procedure
• Shop competitors to ensure we are competitive and up-to-date with trends
• Assist in the preparation of the annual budget
• Actively sell burial rights (lots, plots, columbaria) and any other income-generating cemetery items
• Attend staff meetings when possible (not to be a distraction from job responsibilities)
• Open our parishes to outside activities and spiritual events to showcase our parish cemeteries
Supervision Received:
• Work is performed with minimum direction from the immediate supervisor.
Follows established methods and procedures.
Frequently develops methods to achieve desired results.
Asks for guidance and refers exceptions to supervisor.
Contact with others:
• Frequent personal contact with parishioners, parish priests, supervisors, business managers, cemetery boards, trustees, and co-workers.
• Frequent telephone and written contact with the general public, outside contacts, and parishioners.
Judgment/Initiative:
• Requires a high level of judgment and initiative in setting priorities, following initiatives through to completion, and continually monitoring for success and needed course changes on an ongoing basis.
Must determine if unusual problems require the involvement of others.
Working Environment:
• Parish Offices, cemeteries, facilities and grounds
• Local travel required.
Driver's license necessary.
• Maintains a flexible work schedule averaging 40 hours per week, and includes days, evenings, weekends and special occasions

Educational/Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent
• Preferably Catholic/Must know and follow Catholic teachings
• Must reimburse any educational expenses paid by the employer if leaves employment within one year
• 3-5 years of experience in management
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong communication skills
