Description:The Student Success Advisor (Progression and Academic Support) is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering a comprehensive transfer advising program based on the development and individual needs of international students.
*Responsibilities*
* Counsels students on admission criteria and other factors in the educational decision process.
* Remain current on transfer requirements and regulations for regional and national universities and colleges.
* Help students adjust to academic college culture in the US – plagiarism, note-taking skills, and other skills needed to succeed in college.
* Develop and maintain a cooperative relationship with Admissions staff at regional colleges and universities.
* Accurately communicate and support university academic and university policies; provide international students guidance related to academic progress, course selection, degree selection, and work/life/study issues.
* Develop and maintain a cooperative relationship with pathway and host university staff.
* Proactively identify and implement methods for publicizing and promoting activities of Kings Pathways both in person and online.
* Represent Kings Pathways at regional guidance counselor fairs/tours.
* Lead regular workshops and advising sessions to help student profiles.
* Maintain a library of college preparation and admissions resources for students.
* Maintain database for students’ academic progress and prepare regular external reports.
* When necessary, instruct students bound for undergraduate and graduate programs in the US.
Instruction will include linguistic, academic, and university preparation elements.
* Possess a strong comfort level with college level materials and course structure and know how to teach academic skills required in college - research papers, analytical reading, presentations, etc.
* Conduct scheduled advising sessions with students to determine progress.
* Support Academic team when needed, opportunities to substitute a class and/or teach English language class when necessary.
* Assist with Student Experience/Services (activities, college visits, student housing, etc.
)
Requirements:Requirements
* Admissions/college advising or related experience
* Bachelor’s Degree in a closely related field or equivalent experience, Master’s Degree preferred
* Cultural sensitivity with experience teaching ESL to/working with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Tact, patience and diplomacy, particularly with non-native English speakers
* Good problem solving, creative thinking, and organizational skills
* Must be authorized to work in the United States
