Description
1.
Follow district, building, and departmental policies and procedures.
2.
Communicate effectively in English or other languages with students, staff and parents.
3.
Treat all students, staff and parents and others encountered on the job with respect, compassion, and patience.
4.
Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students and staff.
5.
Assist with the supervision of students.
6.
If bilingual, interpret as requested for students, ELL and mainstream teachers, administrators, school nurses, school counselors, M-team meetings, parent/teacher conferences and ELL parents, school psychologists, speech therapists, and school social workers.
7.
Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by teachers.
8.
Assist students in integrating into regular classrooms.
9.
Attend ELL department meetings.
10.
Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
11.
Assist with supervision and management of students.
12.
Prepare instructional materials.
13.
Alert classroom or ELL teacher to any problem with or special information about individual students.
14.
Other duties as may be assigned.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
May be asked to participate in team processes for continuous improvement.
2.
Perform other responsibilities set forth in the teacher assistant job description.
3.
Perform tasks assisting clerical and administrative staff.
4.
Assist with student supervision in other school settings.
5.
Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students and staff.
Qualifications
1.
High school diploma or its equivalent.
2.
Ability to assist with English Language Learners in the classroom setting.
3.
Ability to communicate effectively in English.
4.
Bilingual preferred, but not required, in one of the following languages: Arabic, Hmong, Karen, or Spanish.
5.
Successful experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
6.
Demonstrated ability to interact tactfully, effectively, and courteously with students, parents, staff, and others encountered on the job.
7.
Ability to follow written and verbal directions as provided by teachers and administrators.
8.
Ability to staff the position for the scheduled workday.
9.
Is responsible and punctual.
10.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
