The New London Public Library is accepting applications for a friendly, energetic, knowledgeable full-time Adult/Teen Services Librarian.
Responsibilities include planning and executing programs, providing reference, readers’ advisory and computer assistance, coordinating the library’s Book Club, and collection management.
Exceptional customer service skills are a necessity.
The successful candidate will be dynamic, creative, tech-savvy, work well independently and as a team, and be willing to adapt to changing priorities and library practices.
Must possess strong multi-tasking, organizational and technological skills.
New London Library is open six days a week from Labor Day to Memorial Day, weekends and evening hours are expected.
Starting pay range is $20.
00 per hour - $23.
29 per hour.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
Reports to library director regularly concerning all programs, projects, services, challenges, successes, policies, procedures, budget needs and personnel matters related to the adult and teen departments.
Keeps statistical records as required by the director.
Organizes, plans, coordinates, promotes and implements all services, programs, displays, and other activities relating to services to adults and teens.
Implements collection development procedures and selection of materials for the adult and teen departments.
Oversees classification, data base entry, processing, and placement of all materials in the adult and teen departments.
Oversees the selection, training and performance of the adult department's personnel, including library assistants.
Assigns and delegates tasks to adult department personnel.
Conducts reference interviews, performs reference and reader's advisory functions, assists patrons in using library database and electronic resources, performs circulation functions as needed.
Oversees library outreach services for adults, including care facilities and homebound.
Acts as liaison between the library and community agencies serving adults and teens.
Promotes adult and teen library services in the library and in the community.
Advises director on budget, physical conditions, equipment, supplies and service needs.
Monitors departmental budget.
Belongs to and participates in local, and state library associations.
Attends relevant professional and community workshops.
Other duties as requested by the director.
Qualifications, Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education and Training:
MLS from ALA accredited graduate school preferred.
Bachelor's degree may be acceptable, depending on experience.
Experience and training in library skills, knowledge of print, non-print and electronic resources and services for adults and teens.
