GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Collections Care & Projects Coordinator under the direct supervision of the Director of Cultural Affairs will be responsible for the stewardship of the Library/Museum collections, providing access to collections for researchers, and gallery tours, develop, and deliver public education outreach programming on and off-site.
A candidate for the position will have a developed understanding of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums (TALM) issues and practices and experience working in Indigenous TALM or collections and community contexts.
The position works flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested.
DUTIES: Maintain and manage collections and databases.
Creates and maintains records of object loans, conservation, condition, location, exhibition, insurance, and collections of donor information, incoming and outgoing accessions.
Preserve and steward archival materials, objects, and bound materials (books) including physical originals and digital surrogates.
Continuously assess the storage needs of collections and develop plans for locating and acquiring new materials for incorporation into physical and digital collections Continuously monitor the storage and exhibition environment where collections are present including implementing environmental monitoring and integrated pest management plans to ensure the preservation and stewardship of collections.
Assist with the development of policy and procedures concerning accessioning, cataloging, access and use of archival materials, library, and object collections (physical and digital surrogates) while implementing the nuances of cataloging standards adopted by the archival, library, and museum professions.
Organize and prepare accession and collection records and develop descriptions, classification systems, and finding aids to facilitate access to collections (physical and digital surrogates).
Monitor Library/Museum operation, housekeeping and security.
Implements a digital stewardship plan for collections access, retention, and preservation.
Collect, organize, and maintain a wide range of information for safekeeping and handling of materials and objects that are retained because of their importance and significance to the Tribe.
Research, and assess preservation and stewardship needs and care of various archival materials, books, and objects (physical and digital surrogates) to ensure long-term preservation and consult with specialists for more in-depth preventative conservation assessments and applications.
Work with professional consultants needed to assist with the documentation and promotion of the collections (photographers, marketing teams, exhibit fabricators, guest curators, etc.
) Respond to inquiries from other departments, researchers, students, and provide educational resources and tutorial on using access tools (PastPerfect & Laserfiche).
Manage all research requests and provides research training and tutorials for the public to increase access.
Assist in coordinating educational and public outreach programs regarding the Stockbridge-Munsee history and culture.
This includes exhibits, professional presentations, public relations activities, and special events at the Library/Museum and off-site locations.
Assist staff and customers in the giftshop when necessary and operate the cash register for sales.
Formulate and submit monthly, semi-annual, and annual reports to the Director of Cultural Affairs Manage, control, and prioritize multiple activities smoothly in a busy atmosphere.
Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner, which promotes teamwork with customers, clients, co-workers and supervisors.
Attend relevant meetings and training sessions as recommended or required, including those helpful in gaining archival and computer skills.
Maintain strict department security, confidentiality, and quality to meet the professional standards of the department.
Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS: All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification: 1.

Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record 4.
Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays.

Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License as stated on job description.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend/stoop, reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, push/pull, carry twenty-five (25-30) to thirty pounds, and lift thirty-one to fifty pounds (31-50).
Occasionally crawl, climb heights, and balance.
The employee must use the repetitive movement of both hands and feet.
Work is generally performed in a library/museum setting with high noise levels, interruptions, multitasking, dust, and mold.
Evening and/or weekend work will be required.
Extended hours and irregular shifts will be required.
Must complete a Self-Disclosing Physical Questionnaire prior to employment.
A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment and annually thereafter as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, Archival Sciences, or Museum Studies Experience interacting with the public.
Experience working collaboratively and in a culturally sensitive manner is preferred.
Knowledge and willingness to learn the history and culture of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums as well as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.
Knowledge in collections management, archival processing, archival research, and public education.
Must be familiar with various computer software and digital platforms typically used in an office and museum/archive setting, i.
e.
, email, word-processing, spreadsheets, photoshop, and Collections Management Systems such as PastPerfect, Mukurtu, etc.
Ability to operate standard office and digitization equipment such as computers, copy machines, smart tv, screen projector, digital cameras, overhead and flatbed scanners, microfilm readers, etc.
Requires the ability to perform mid to upper-level data analysis, including the ability to coordinate, strategize, systemize and correlate, using discretion in determining time, place, and/or sequence of operations within an organizational framework.
Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, advisory and/or design data and information to communicate orally, and in writing.
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs.
Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as supervision, managing, leading, teaching, directing, planning, coordinating and controlling.
Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.
