Description
The Waupun Area School District is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year to serve predominantly students identified with intellectual disabilities (ID) 7th-12th grade at Waupun Junior/Senior High School.
Candidate must have/or be willing to get certified to teach cross-categorical special education with experience or emphasis in ID and a focus on Transition.
Desired candidate will work in collaboration with another special education teacher partner to work on life skills, vocational skills, academics, and transition skills in a school apartment like setting.
WASD also has a transition house utilized within this program that is located 3 blocks from the JSHS.
Candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree to apply and be considered for district support in obtaining licensure by enrolling in a program.
District coaching and mentoring will be provided to support the individual in this position.
This individual is expected to collaborate with our other special education staff, administrators, general education teachers, and student services team.
The Waupun Area School District is a 4K-12 school district serving a population of 1900 students in South Central Wisconsin.
Located conveniently on Hwy 151, Waupun is only 45 minutes north of Madison and 20 minutes south of Fond du Lac.
WASD is home to four schools, including a charter school in Fox Lake.
Preferred applicants will have demonstrated skills and successful experience in:
- Knowledge and experience in the utilization of behavior management systems including conducting Functional Behavioral Assessment and designing individualized Behavioral Intervention Plans
- Background in Transition Planning, solid understanding of DPI's PTP application, and ability to assist connecting students to outside agency resources
- Activating and coordinating multiple systems of care in order to support students.
- Developing excellent working relationships and consulting with peers, as well as with community and agency stakeholders.
- Knowledge of techniques, which are successful in working with parents of students with disabilities
- Utilize creative and innovative classroom instructional practices
- Educate and engage all students that are in your classroom in a positive and individualized manner
- Develop and build positive relationships with others, especially students and parents
- Remain current and utilize best special education classroom instructional practices
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with others
- Implement the common core standards and/or essential elements pertinent to population served
- Understanding of the IEP process, legal timelines, and assessment procedures
- Current training and Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) strategies and techniques (or willingness to be trained)
