Summary :
The Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer maintains the bariatric databases to support the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (ACS MBSAQIP) through abstracting and entering reliable data.
Procures the quality report for the Metabolic Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Performance Committee.
Assists in patient, family, and care team education throughout the MBS continuum, from preoperative optimization to ongoing maintenance support.
Job Description:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1.
Compiles valid, reliable, and timely data in the ACS MBSAQIP registry.
2.
Abstracts preoperative, operative, post-operative, and long-term data by effectively utilizing software applications and medical record systems and coordinating efforts with provider offices to meet the ACS MBSAQIP standards.
3.
Accurately and efficiently monitors readmissions, reoperations, and 30-day occurrences for bariatric surgery performance improvement committee review.
4.
Interprets and evaluates ACS MBSAQIP quality reports to identify improvement opportunities with the MBS Performance Improvement Committee.
5.
Utilizes evidence-based practice to participate in performance improvement initiatives identified as improvement opportunities through ACS MBSAQIP data.
6.
Serves as an educational resource by teaching and coaching MBS patients, families, and care teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or three years of nursing experience)
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Metabolic Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer Certification within three months of hire
Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
Job classification is exposed to blood-borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Normally works in climate climate-controlled office environment.
Frequent sitting with movement throughout office space
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
Occasional high noise level in the work environment
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
Use of computers throughout the workday
Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers
Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
