We are seeking a Lead Process Engineer to support K-C’s innovation strategies including new development towards our bold forest fiber reduction goals.
The Lead Process Engineer will carry out process development work employing knowledge of pulp and papermaking to develop, improve and optimize processes for manufacturing natural fibers for tissue and/or nonwoven materials.
The role involves working with chemists, material scientists, engineering teams, and process teams to develop and scale-up novel processes and materials.
Relevant backgrounds would include chemical engineering, pulp/paper engineering, chemistry, or materials science.
The role includes, at various times, ideation, contribute to patent drafts, reviews and landscaping, bench scale concept development, pilot scale process development, process scale-up translation, and materials & process technology development.
In this role, you will: Carry out process R&D work employing knowledge of process engineering, tissue making processes, nonwovens processes, pulp and paper science, natural material systems, natural fibers, nonwovens fibers, and sustainability.
Lead/Support process development projects from pilot through commercialization, including process design and equipment selection, start-up and scale-up support to deliver desired product specification and machine performance targets, collaborating across functional areas to deliver on time and within specification.
Collaborate with internal contributors, external technical service providers, external equipment suppliers and other parties to scale, optimize, and commercialize innovative technology solutions.
Employ innovative approaches based on available scientific knowledge.
Contribute to and execute ideation, rapid bench scale concept development, pilot scale concept development, process scale-up development, contributing to broad technology solutions for meaningful consumer benefit winning solutions.
Own project accountabilities as part of a larger project team.
Provide functional guidance in the design, development, and optimization of pulping equipment and processes to meet unit objectives for scaling-up.
Ensure communication of project plans and results to partners, customers, and other team members.
Documentation & analysis contributions may include the use of rapid learning trial reports, statistics, machine learning, images, visuals, videos and other materials which effectively communicate key outcomes.
Contribute to an environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve both their individual and team contributions to achieve desired business results.
Visibly demonstrate that safety is a value by following safety procedures, maintaining a safe workplace and complying with safety rules.
Develop equipment, processes and products that meet safety codes, policies and guidelines.

Understand and perform basic financial analysis to determine best cost options for process and project initiatives.
Seek, recognize, define, and solve problems to achieve unit objectives while collaborating and maintaining relationships with team members, staff, and outside vendors/contractors.
Ensure development and execution of product specification and quality plans appropriate for phase of project.
Own/Manage Material related systems (i.

, specifications, product safety, SAP, etc.
).
Provide mentorship to junior members of the team.
To succeed in this role, you will need: Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Pulp/Paper Science, Bioprocessing, Environmental Engineering, Wood Chemistry, Biochemistry, Polymer Science or related area.
3+ years of working experience in technical and process project work focusing on alternative fibers and related process & product.
Knowledge of engineering principles, scientific analysis and project management.
Strong knowledge of analytical instruments and methods for materials characterization.
Strong technical sensitivity to capture innovation opportunities and implement continuous improvements for alternative fiber and waste re-utilization related process and products.
Excellent data analysis and communication skills - written and verbal.
Skills in the areas of collaboration, innovation, decisiveness, and conflict resolution are important for success.
Understanding of process / product development, statistical control and experimentation, and demonstration of feasibility for commercial / consumer use.
Must be able to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.
Travel up to 30% of time.
