REPORTS TO: Academic Coordinator
Job Summary: Responsible for implementing the daily activities of the Learning Center and the supervision of elementary or middle school grade level members during after school hours.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED or currently a senior in High School
Experience in working with children
Knowledge of youth development
Proven ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
Good communications skills, both verbal and written
Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
Job Responsibilities:
Create a welcoming environment through means of creative lesson planning, bulletin boards, and academic programming.
Work with Academic Coordinator to lead programs with Club members in the Learning Center
Responsible for helping assist in providing positive direction to children, teach and encourage new skills, and ensure a safe environment for all children.
Be an effective communicator with children, staff and supervisors.
Responsible for helping to maintain the physical appearance of the program environment including set up, storage space, and equipment.
Room must be left in a clean and orderly condition each day.
Dress appropriately and maintain a neat appearance, including complying with the dress code, along with a friendly and professional attitude.
Have a positive attitude, act as a positive role model, and mentor children.
Must be able to respond appropriately and use good judgment when dealing with children, parents, and emergencies.
Complete attendance and accident forms completely as necessary and give to Program Director.
Must be patient, flexible, understanding, respectful, responsible, dependable, and carry a high energy and sense of creativity.
Mandated child abuse reporter.
May be asked to do other duties, which benefit the organization.
Must understand that children will become distraught, fussy, or won’t quit crying.
Staff must first attempt to determine the cause of distress, do whatever possible to soothe the child, and if needed, call the director for assistance.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Must be able to interact physically with children during program activities.
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Must be able to think clearly and concisely.
Must be able to function in a loud environment with high energy interacting with multiple aged members.
Must be able to work in a variety of environments, including outdoor activities possible trip assignment.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
