Merchandising Manager The Merchandising Manager develops the product portfolio, including: evaluating, sourcing and selecting items within a product category.
Summary of Primary Responsibilities Responsible for revenue and profit of the product assortment.
Development of go-to-market assortment.
Development and execution of category strategy promotions in collaboration with Marketing.
Manages the product life cycle from item creation to product disposition.
Conducts analysis of competitive markets.
Analyzes competitor’s product mix, pricing and merchandising strategy.
Sets item pricing consistent with assortment strategy.
Sources, evaluates and selects suppliers that enhance the category’s product and service portfolio.
Sources, evaluates and selects new products for the category.
Determines the supplier matrix needed to support the assortment.
Negotiates supplier contracts to include costs, volume buys, rebate programs, shipping/packaging parameters.
Tracks performance metrics for the vendor scorecard; measures financial performance of supplier.
Makes sales forecast recommendations to Supply Chain partners for inventory planning.
Manages all supplier touch points.
Support and follow all company policies and procedures.
Responsible for item data attributes for Web and Print marketing.
Minimum Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in related field with 3+ years of experience in either merchandising, purchasing, marketing, or related area.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of essential assortment planning, pricing, promotions and supply chain methods and processes.
Ability to conduct market analysis including market conditions and pricing benchmarks.
Ability to research the marketplace for new products, sources of supplies, materials, equipment and suppliers.
Ability to evaluate sample items of supplies to determine conformance to product specifications to evaluate the capability of suppliers in meeting the product demands of customers.
Knowledge of customers purchasing methods and procedures including open-market purchasing methods, formal contracting techniques and competitive bidding.
Ability to encourage and facilitate cooperation, pride, trust, group identity, commitment and team spirit.
Ability to recognize and suggest remedies to problems which may arise in purchasing policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with suppliers and manufacturers’ representative to write accurate product descriptions that reflect the equipment and supply needs of the customer.
Skilled in working cross-functionally and able to recognize impact of own actions and on others; gains support and commitment of others to achieve common goals.
Estimates and budgets time necessary to complete assignments; prioritizes effectively.
Seeks to continuously improve; readily supports change and can adapt to daily challenges and larger one-off change events.
Displays motivation, initiative, enthusiasm, and commitment to category objectives.
